Canine parvovirus (parvo) is a particular type of virus that attacks the intestines of dogs (which does not affect humans or cats). Parvo can be a fatal threat to dogs unvaccinated or puppy. Parvo is extremely hardy, can survive the blistering heat and freezing temperatures for long periods of time. The most common route exposure to this virus is contact with feces from infected dogs, but because the virus is so bold, it is possible for people's shoes / clothing to transmit the virus too. The most important is that canine parvovirus can be prevented!
An unvaccinated dog that ingested the virus is likely that the disease. Ingestion occurs when a dog licks or eats anything that contains the virus. Dogs of either sex and any race or age can be infected by parvovirus, although Rottweiler and Doberman Pinscher has the virus more sensitive than other races.
Because parvo is so easily spread, unvaccinated dogs are more exposed to the feces of other dogs (is ie, parks, Doggie Daycare, pet shops, kennels, etc.) are at high risk.
